Waning Crescent
Rest, integration, and preparation for stillness
The Waning Crescent is the last phase before the darkness of the New Moon. The moon has almost vanished: only a thin sliver of light remains in the dawn sky. This is the quietest, most introspective time of the month — a time for integration, rest, and preparation for a new beginning.
Energetically this is the slowest phase. The body is tired, emotions are calm, and the mind seeks stillness. This is not a time for vigorous action — it is a time for sleep, meditation, quiet walks, and journalling. Allow yourself to slow down without guilt.
In traditional cultures this time was called the "Dark Moon" and was considered sacred for witches, healers, and wise women. They would retreat into solitude, practise vision work, and listen to the voice of the earth. This is a time between worlds — when the veil between the conscious and the unconscious is thin.
A ritual: create a "quiet evening" for yourself: switch off your phone, light a candle, brew tea. Ask yourself: "What am I carrying within me from this cycle?" Write down what comes. This stillness is not emptiness — it is fertile soil into which you will soon sow new seeds.
