Full Moon

Culmination, revelation, and the power of release

The Full Moon is the culmination of the lunar cycle. At the height of its power the moon illuminates the night sky, making the invisible visible. This is why the Full Moon so often brings revelations — unexpected insights, emotional peaks, and the completion of long-running stories.

Energetically this is the most intense phase of the month. Emotions are amplified, intuition is heightened, and everything hidden rises to the surface. This is not the best time for beginning new things — but it is ideal for seeing the results of what has already been planted.

All around the world the Full Moon is connected with rituals, festivals, and spiritual practices. In Buddhism the Full Moon day — Uposatha — is a day of intensive meditation. In Hinduism the Full Moon is associated with the goddess Lakshmi and is considered auspicious for prayers of abundance. Many pagan traditions honoured the Moon especially at this time.

A ritual: go outside and stand beneath the full moon. Let its light touch you. Say aloud: "I release [what you wish to let go]." Write on paper everything you are ready to relinquish, and burn it. The Full Moon is the most powerful time for releasing the old.
